The Kansas Experiment | 2018 | Composer

Independent Lens PBS Short Documentary (16 minutes) | Directed by Melinda Shopsin | Featured on Atlantic.com

Sometimes the biggest challenge in scoring a film is staying out of the way. These 3 segments  were carefully designed by director Melinda Shopsin to let Kansan citizens speak for themselves and share their experiences with Brownback's failed tax experiment. A suitably American (but not too on the nose) balance had to be found for the music, which sits warmly beneath. I particularly enjoyed the challenge of personally playing every instrument included in the score, which includes all manor of guitars and keyboards, 5 string banjo, bass and percussion.
